End of season Plant Sale, Talgarth PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 11 October 2011 18:25
Last Saturday we attended The Plant Shop's 'end of season' sale on George's Green in Talgarth.  Nicola and her partner Bryan Craven had been up since 5.00 am what with all the fetching and carrying!  Bryan had been extremely helpful throughout the whole day, dealing with the BBQ, doing the driving and putting up the gazebos and bunting.  The Green looked fabulous, filled with an array of beautiful bedding plants including winter flowering pansies, ornamental brassicas and colourful cyclamen.  I bought some brassicas and some bright pink cyclamen.  Just in case you don't know, the ornamental brassicas are those pretty little green and purple cabbages. They are really going to brighten up the porch windowsills!

Some of the shrubs were half price, so I took advantage of that and bought a pink flowering Salvia for £3.00.  Bargain!  Emma Gardener was on hand to give advice on garden design and planting, and Gaynor Price was selling hot drinks and cakes from her stall which we see at Hay Market each Thursday.  I was almost tempted, but I had already bought a Carrot Cake at the market and I'm fat enough as it is!

Hannah Jones, Melanie Barker and Jon Wright also lent a much appreciated helping hand all day.  That Hannah is always working somewhere.  She'll make some lucky man a great wife!  That reallty nice wooden rustic garden furniture which Jason Hirst sells was also on display.

Nicola was pleased with the sales of the perennials, shrubs and winter bedding.  A nice steady flow of customers all day.  Sadly the bulbs she had ordered, especially for Saturday's Plant Sale hadn't arrived in time, but if it's bulbs you are looking for, don't forget that Nicola will have bags of them for sale on Thursdays at the market in Hay.
