SUMMER HOLIDAY - AKA - SAGA HOLIDAY Down at Glasbury Village Hall last Friday, the Wye Drama Group put on a Miscellany of sketches, poems and songs. The talented amateur actors put on a superb show and we all had a wonderful evening of great entertainment, all based on a holiday theme. The programme of events included "A Transport of Delight" by Flanders and Swan, "Conversation on a train" by Roger McGough (I liked that alot), "The Day we went to Bangor", "Between Mouthfuls" by Alan Ayckbourn (brilliant) and "Holiday memories" by Dylan Thomas. The Cast: Mike Harding, Rodney Mace, Harriet Tod, Hilary Bright, Jenni Hall, Diana Mellor, Patrick Cooper, Carol Sykes, Anne Skilbeck, Tricia Wordley and Caroline Hafner. The show was directed by Phil Smith, Patrick Cooper operated the shadow puppets, Hilary Bright was in charge of Music and accompanied the singers on the piano, and Pete Ward was the Tech and Stage Manager. I thought Tricia Wordley was very brave to get up and sing a lovely solo. She sang Swimming Song, by Loudon Wainright. Another brave one was Carol Sykes, a new member of Wye Drama, who gave two monologues from Willy Russell's wonderful play Shirley Valentine. I just loved that film! At the end we all sang "Summer Holiday" by Cliff Richard, but instead of 'summer' we all sang SAGA! Ha ha ha ... I don't know what SAGA stands for, but the other day a guy told me it mean "Sex And Games Abroad" !! Old postcards had been placed on the tables, which were set out in a cabaret setting, with nice gingham check table cloths. Phil asked us to write these postcards during the interval and said that the best ones would be read out at the end of the evening. On mine I put "Weather is here, wish you were beautiful" and it got read out! I think about 10 or so were read out. Some of the comments were hilarious! Thank you to everyone at the Wye Drama Group for a brilliant entertaining evening. It was fab! Clare Williams
