Today I received a call from Louise Morlidge, the School Business Manager at Gwernyfed High School. She informs me Gwernyfed High School is under serious threat of closure – to me this is very sad news. Like many local people in our area, we attending this fantastic community school, as did our parents, uncles, antys, maybe even our partners too! Your children may be at this school now . . . so we all need to act now if we want future generations of our families to continue attending Gwernyfed High School. Please go to www.supportgwernyfed.com for more information. Here you can: · Join the Action Group
· Download the Action Pack (posters, car stickers, t shirts)
· E-mail or write to Douglas Wilson (Head of Schools and Inclusion) and the members of the Secondary School Modernisation Group, in particular, Marianne Evans who was sent by Welsh Assemby Government .
· Sign the on-line petition
· Pledge funds to our Fighting Fund
· Lobby the local councillors who have the final decision and are elected by us to represent our views.
Date for the diary: Thursday 27th May, Peter Florence at Hay Festival has arranged a debate and Q&A session on this topic which is free (but ticketed) and will be attended by Douglas Wilson (Head of Schools & Inclusion). This is an ideal opportunity for him to see first hand the strength of feeling. We need as many supporters as possible to attend and make him listen to us.
Keep an eye out in the next issue of Wye Local to see what more can be done.
Please spread the word and prevent Gwernyfed High School from closure.
