Why a Wye Local Car Boot Sale? PDF Print E-mail

People have asked me why am I organising a Car Boot Sale, after all I'm Wye Local, the local community magazine, not an events organiser!

Well, it stems back from the Open Tourism Meeting in February – businesses want more people to come to Hay, why not get people to attend a local Car Boot I thought!

I contacted Fiona at Hay School and straight away I had her full support, having it so near to the centre of town means people will be more tempted to take a gander, maybe stopping for lunch, or having a coffee, or if the weather is nice, an ice cream at Shepherds might take their fancy! Whilst in town they would be free to roam the many shops. Fingers crossed they will spend a penny or two and better still they will tell people on what Hay has to offer! I was only speaking to a friend of mine from Talgarth the other day, she commented on the nice shops in Hay, but only recently has she realised how many shops there are, before she used to travel into Brecon to get a gift, in the future she will come to Hay. I think this is the case for many people living around Hay, let's get them here so they can see them for themselves.

One important factor to determine the success of the Wye Local Car Boot Sale will be the weather! I really hope it's as kind to me as it was to the Hay Literature Festival. If it's dry it means we can also have boots on the grass area, if it's wet we are limited to 40-50 cars on the tarmac – whatever the case, it's nice to hear people are getting their lofts emptied, garages cleared and spare rooms de-junked – all in time for Sunday 28th June for the Wye Local Car Boot Sale.

Come along to support this first Car Boot Sale whether your doing a boot yourself or you're just a browser eager to haggle! If successful three more will run during the Summer months – watch this website for further details.
