Destination Talgarth Minutes - Monday 24th January 2011 PDF Print E-mail

Collabor8 Meeting

Meeting held at the Tower Hotel, Talgarth at 10.30am

Present:  Jan Ellis, Marian Meredith, Geoff Smart, Clive Mickelwright, Helen Jones, Gareth Walters,

William Powell, Elaine Starling, Carol Williams, Anne Hillier.

No apologies received.

Agenda Items.

1.      Talgarth Map. l presented the map and blurb for perusal by the group.  A review of the Map and captions took place.  Some alterations were made.  Carol requested that after changes had been recorded, that members of the group made any comments via email after receiving the revised copy.

2.     Itineraries. itineraries are to be numbered’

The group reviewed (1) ‘Accessible Talgarth’, (2) ‘Lazy Sunday in Talgarth’, (3) ‘ Breathtaking Views’.

Carol made notes re comments on these Itinaries. 4 Itineraries were not discussed.

3.     A Taste of Talgarth.   A group of produces and suppliers of local produce have met twice.  The Tower Hotel hosted the event.   Carol found the money from Collabpor8 funds and Glasu were involved.  The “Start-up” Meeting was not that well attended but the 2nd meeting had a buzz about it.

4.     All the money for “Destination Talgarth” will finish this Calendar Year 2011. So the group has to decide what the remaining project/projects should be.

Carol suggested that we looked at the Action Plans.

It was stated that there was a Tourism Conference on the 2nd March. Open Invitation to attend.

Discussion ranged as to how Talgarth was to capitalise on the “Mill Restoration”.

A Bread Festival was mooted but it was requested that if it was decided to put it on in August, it was not a separate event from the ‘Talgarth Festival’ but part of it.

Jan talked about the Micro Beer Festival organised at the Tower in February.  The notion was put forward that a Festival like the Beer and Bread Festival would extend the season.

It was stated that to run a Festival monies and funds were needed.  It appears at the moment, that a lot of the available funds that can be applied for are going to the “Mill”.  There is only so much money available and even small funding streams are ending up in the Mill’s coffers.  Whether this is true or not, it is the perceived opinion.

No decisions reached re the Bread Festival.

It was suggested that perhaps a “Portal” could be attached to the web which allowed easy access for the diverse websites in Talgarth.  Further discussion needed.

Gareth Walters and a colleague from the TIRC would like to go on a course to update their skills re the TIRC Website.

Carol did not wish to revisit the sensitive area of websites.  Gareth asked about “Brown Signage”   Carol stated that funding could not be used for that from Collaboro8  (available from Powys and WAG).

Conclusion

Carol would (1) send Map to Tony with correction for printing.

(2)  Revised print sent to group members for comment.

(3)   Carol would revise the correct “Itineraries” already discussed.

(4)  Members were asked to correct the remaining 4 itineraries and return comments  via email to Carol.

Next Meeting is the 15th March at the Granary.

The Group would like to thank Jan for hosting this meeting.

Meeting closed at 12.25 pm.
