SINGER/SONGWRITER Jess Childs is flying the local flag at a philosophy festival to be staged alongside the Hay Festival this month. The former Gwernyfed pupil will bring her soulful voice to a range of self-penned, acoustic tunes in a performance at The Globe during Where The Light Gets In.
Her hour-long set on May 31 forms part of a 10-day programme of live music, comedy and dance sessions from various performers, including award-winning folk musician Gaynor O’Flynn and ex-Gorky’s acid-folk singer Richard James.
But the 27-year-old will only just have time to soak it all up before she hotfoots it over to Hereford’s Black Lion pub for another gig later in the evening. “It’s going to be a bit of a killer,” she admitted, “but who in their right mind would miss out on Hay Festival?!”
