Monmouthshire Walking Festival 22nd - 31st October 2011 PDF Print E-mail
The Monmouthshire Walking Festival kicks off on October 21st with ten days of action for everyone.
There are over 30 walks with at least one ‘serious’ walk a day plus a whole host of special interest walks and events.
The Festival has collaborated with local groups such as Gwent Badger Trust, Astronomers, U3A, Historical and
Conservation Societies, The Ramblers to make it a truly inclusive event.
Ben Giles of Pocket Mountain Guides and Alasitar Ross of the Kittiwake series are also leading several walks.
Kate Humble a resident in Monmouthshire has kindly lent her support and written the foreword on the website.
The key walks cover Tintern, Black Mountains, Kilgwrrwg, Whitebrook and the Abergavenny area.
A challenge walk of 19 miles aims to take on the Three Castles in one day but most walks are between 6 and 10 miles
with plenty of shorter walks taking no more than a half day. Find out about The Piercefield Estate with Overlooking the Wye,
Mounton with Shirenewton Historical Society who are also opening their archives, meet on Blorenge with the
Usk and Abergavenny Astronomy Societies and afterwards in their Planetarium, Geocaching in Trellech and more.
